István Zalatnay

István Zalatnay (Budapest, 1960), Calvinist pastor, graduated in theology and philosophy in Budapest and Geneva, Switzerland. In 2004 he earned a doctorate in philosophy at the phenomenology programme of Eötvös Loránd University. In 1990–4, he took high positions in the democratic government of József Antall. In 1992 , he worked for a year at the International Secretariat of the NATO General Assembly in Brussels. Since 1995 he has been in charge of the Translvanian Congregation of Budapest, a member of the Calvivnist Church of Romania. In 2003–11 he taught at the Calvinist School of Theology in the town of Pápa. His special field is liturgy.

MEDITATION ON THE 1956 MONUMENT IN BUDAPEST

As it so happens, due to the circumstances of my life at the moment I drive almost daily down Dózsa György street, one of the main avenues of Budapest. I have therefore driven past the monument built in 2006 in commemoration of the Revolution of 1956 several hundreds of times.
